8* Take Baylor (#654)
Baylor has been a truly elite team from Day 1 this season; a legit national title contender. Buthey suffered through a three week COVID pause in February, and like just about every team that has dealt with COVID issues this season, they came out of the break a step slow on both ends of the court – they covered only one of their next eight pointspreads in regulation (they did steal another ATS win as a favorite in OT). No surprise, then, that the betting markets cooled off on Scott Drew’s team……just in time for them to control the flow in wins and covers against Villanova and Wisconsin in their last two games.
How good is Baylor’s defense? ‘Nova had 12 turnovers in their first two tourney games combined. They committed 15 against the Bears. Baylor shot 3-19 from three point range for the game, unusual for an excellent three point shooting team. Even with that dismal long range shooting, they were still able to win and cover. And I’m expecting Baylor to knock down some three pointers tonight.
Oral Roberts wasn’t an elite team, but Arkansas couldn’t pull away. Texas Tech wasn’t an elite team, but Arkansas couldn’t pull away. Colgate wasn’t an elite team but they gave Arkansas fits for a half, before their lack of size doomed them. And it’s surely worth noting that those were the ONLY Big Dance teams Arkansas beat away from home all year – they got blasted on the road by Alabama, Tennessee and LSU, and lost at Oklahoma State. Arkansas is very good. Baylor is elite. Chalk worth laying! Take Baylor.
