Florida State couldn’t stop a nosebleed at this point, surrendering 52 points to Miami, 42 points to Notre Dame and 24 points to FCS Jacksonville State this season. The only time the Seminoles defense showed up this season was in their opener against Georgia Tech, which only mustered 16 points. Then again, the Yellow Jackets were starting true freshman Jeff Sims, who was making the first collegiate start of his career, so I don’t know how impressive that performance was either.
The last thing FSU needs is a date with North Carolina, which just hung 56 points on No. 19 Virginia Tech last Saturday. Quarterback Sam Howell had issues getting the ball down field in wins over Syracuse and Boston College, but he found his vertical game last week versus a struggling Hokies secondary. The sophomore completed 18-of-23 passes for 257 yards with three touchdowns and nearly missed a fourth TD when Dazz Newsome caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage and scored on what was ruled to be a rushing touchdown. Howell should have another big day tonight versus the sieve that is the FSU defense.
The over has hit in six of the Seminoles’ last eight games overall and is 4-1 i their last five games when listed as an underdog. The last nine times FSU allowed more than 40 points in its previous game, the over hit seven times in the team’s next contest. I like the over again tonight.
