Vince Velasquez got cracked on the mound in his last outing against the Minnesota Twins—eight hits, five earned runs and two homers. Meanwhile, the White Sox are ranked in the bottom-half of the league in runs and hits allowed.
Velasquez has been dinged with losses in back-to-back games in a season where he’s sitting at a 6.75 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. Like the Angels, the White Sox’s bullpen has also struggled early in the season. So if Velasquez digs himself a hole, there’s unlikely to be anyone to help dig him out.
DH man Andrew Vaughn popped up on the injury report as day-to-day, and the team is still waiting to get third baseman Yoan Moncada back on the field. There isn’t a whole lot of help right now for the White Sox, but then again, Jose Suarez starting for the Halos gives them a fighting chance. They must take advantage of it.
