2 VCU (-109) @ Draftkings |
St Bonnies has a pretty thin margin for error with an extremely thin bench due to transfer or players being away from the team. Currently of the 3 man bench, 2 of them are more or less just bodies combining for 2 ppg between them, and the other is guard Vasquez that chips in 5 ppg but is shooting only 27% from the field.
The Bonnies starters are a very good A10 team though. I gotta believe a deep, top half of conference type team like VCU is equipped to take advantage of the lack of depth. VCU typically does a pretty good job drawing fouls and any foul trouble will be key. Also VCU's pressure defense could be tough to deal with for the Bonnies since multiple starters will have to play for most of the game.
St Bonnies' Junior laden core is obviously likely better positioned to flip the narrative as veterans now, but it doesnt hurt that this group has struggled in both their games against VCU the last 2 years (both 30ish point L's). I dont see a blowout L here, but do believe any kind of foul trouble would be damaging for the Bonnies, and that VCU will likely be the fresher team late. The Bonnies' previous 2 wins, both 14 pt wins over pretty punchless squads in Fordham and Duquense, were a bit misleading as both were tight most of the way. So I think it kind of masked that they are pretty vulnerable right now with such a short rotation, and VCU plays the kind of pace and style with their pressure defense that could take advantage.
VCU +2
