This number is too short on the Mets. Taijuan Walker’s advanced metrics aren’t great but he’s been productive thus far, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.52 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across five starts that span 23 innings. Sometimes it takes a few trips through the rotation before the underlying issues start to pop up.
On the other side, Austin Gomber is generating soft contact but his strikeout and walk rates are both below average, he’s not missing bats much and when hitters do put the ball into play, they’re barreling his pitches at a high rate. That’s not a good combination.
Even if the pitching matchup is a wash (and I’m not suggesting that it is), the Mets are still 4-1 in their last five games against the Rockies and have won five of their last seven games at Coors Field.
