I don’t know what happened in Game 2, but the Flames are clearly still the better team in this matchup. Mike Smith saved 37 of the 40 shots that he faced in Game 2, but he still struggled. After allowing three goals on 10 shots in just over six minutes into Game 1, he coughed up another two goals against just past the six-minute mark in Game 2. If it weren’t for his offense bailing him out, he may have been pulled again. I just don’t trust him.
There’s no question the Flames have to clean things up defensively, although they probably needed those two games in Calgary to get used to facing the speed of Edmonton. They faced the Stars in the Conference Quarterfinals, who were a completely different opponent in terms of speed and scoring potential. They’ll be fine.
Give me the Flames in a rebound spot.
