|PHI (-110) @ Fanduel|
The 2021 National Hockey League season opens up on Wednesday, January 13th with an early evening rivalry showdown between the Pittsburgh Penguins & the Philadelphia Flyers. Both clubs made the postseason bubble this past summer, with the Pens getting bounced in a qualifying round upset by the Montreal Canadiens, while Philly dispatched those same Canadiens in the next round before losing in a hard fought series with the NY Islanders that went 7 games. These are two teams that I feel are going in opposite directions. Pittsburgh has had a long run of being one of the powers of the NHL, but they have dealt with injuries during the last couple of seasons and with an aging core of stars like Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Brian Dumolin, combined with a goaltending tandem of Tristan Jarry & Casey DeSmith, that is still relatively unproven, the Pens are poised for a downward turn while Philly has a good mix of veteran stars and youthful talent that has tasted victory in the playoffs, and with a rising star in net with Carter Hart, I feel the Flyers will be in the Eastern Division race all season and have a strong chance to be one of the top four teams left to battle for the Stanley Cup this summer. It starts with this first game, to get their legs back under them and to make a statement with a win over their top rivals. Play on Philadelphia here to earn 2 points on Night #1 of the new season.
