One of the most important injuries of this NHL season has been the torn ACL suffered by the Islanders’ captain Anders Lee back in mid March. He’s the captain, the #1 powerplay guy, and kind of the straw that stirs the drink on Long Island. Since his season-ending injury on March 16th, Islanders Unders are 9-5-1 and 7-0-1 in the Islanders’ last 8 overall. Since that injury, too, the Islanders have only scored 2.5 goals per game on average.
-The Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 matchups head-to-head between these two and is 6-2 in the last 8 between them in Long Island. People look at the Rangers right now and think “Wow this offense is flying, they’re averaging 4 goals per game since the end of March”; BUT, the Islanders’ gameplan all season has been to slow things down against these faster teams. I think they’ll do that here tonight, and I think the Rangers will do the same coming off a shutout win the other night. In fact the Rangers have gone Under in 5 of their 6 games this year immediately following a shutout win. For a little bonus, I’m going to sprinkle this game to go to Overtime at +305.
