At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Nashville Predators over the Edmonton Oilers. It was a quiet trade deadline for the Predators, indicating that GM David Poile believes the team can make a playoff run without any major changes. A deeper look however shows that the moves Nashville made indicate the Preds chose quality over quantity. This team was a bit soft on defense, so a veteran like the Devils Brian Boyle makes perfect sense. In fact, the 34-year-old Boyle has already made an impact and will likely continue to contribute for the Preds down the stretch. The Oilers were the opposite of the Preds at the deadline, making several deals to improve the front line and hopefully give Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl -- one of the league's top dynamic duos -- some help in the remaining weeks of the season. Whether or not the moves they made will make a difference for an Oilers team that has won just two of their last six games remains to be seen. One thing is for certain -- this has been a lopsided series over the past six seasons with the Preds winning 14 of the last 17 meetings going back to March of 2014. The Preds are 11-5 in their last 16 coming off of a home loss as well as 13-3 (+9 games on the money line) in their last 16 after allowing three goals or more in two straight. Take Nashville. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
