|100 (True) - Tiz the Law to win @ Multiple Sportsbook|
At 5:42 pm, our selection in the Belmont Stakes, Race #10 at Belmont Park, is #8, Tiz the Law, to WIN. In a year when almost nothing has gone according to plan, Sackatoga Stable's Tiz the Law has had just about as perfect a campaign as you can have leading up to this race. Not only is the Belmont being run as the first leg of the Triple Crown instead of the final leg, but it has also been shortened to 9 furlongs (1 1/8 miles) from its usual 12 furlongs distance. When just about every other early Triple Crown contender -- from Green Light Go to Nadal to Maxfield to Charlatan -- has had some sort of major bump in the road, Tiz the Law has had things go like clockwork. Virtually every race and every workout has been flawless for trainer Barclay Tagg's 3-year-old, and there has been no controversy -- injury related or otherwise. What all of this means is that the competition which Tiz the Law will face on Saturday is significantly less daunting than what it looked like just a few short weeks ago. Thus, we have one of the strongest favorites we've seen in the first leg of the Triple Crown in quite some time. The son of Constitution has impressive credentials so far, with runaway victories in the Champagne -- here at Belmont as a 2YO -- and the Holy Bull Stakes and Florida Derby at Gulfstream this past winter. Add to that the fact that his connections are no strangers to winning races in New York, and you have the makings for a thoroughbred which will likely live up to the hype. You may remember Sackatoga's brilliant gelding, Funny Cide, when he won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness back in 2003, before losing the Triple Crown here at Belmont Park. So victory would be doubly-sweet today for Tagg and Sackatoga. And it certainly doesn't hurt their chances that Manny Franco, arguably the best Jockey here on the NY circuit, is back aboard to ride Tiz the Law as he breaks from the #8 post. Play #8, Tiz the Law (-125), to win in race number 10. 10* play. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
