Alex B Smith: UFC Vegas Fight Night Top Play
Middleweights going in opposite directions clash on Saturday night's UFC Vegas Apex 6 card when former champion Chris Weidman takes on rising star Omari Akmedov. Weidman beat legend Anderson Silva to win the UFC strap at 185 way back in 2013 and since losing the belt to Luke Rockhold, the 36-year old veteran known as the "All-American" has lost 5 of his last 6 bouts. Akmedov, a 32-year old grappler who's part of the wave of top Dagastani fighters, is on a 5-0-1 streak in his last 6 fights, but he hasn't won via stoppage since his UFC debut back in the aforementioned year of 2013. That should change here as he will be able to gain some pressure early on the weakened chin of Weidman. Both guys are very solid on the ground, to the point where they neutralize one another in that aspect, and we've seen plenty of bouts where two similar style Wrestlers or Grapplers usually forgo their bread & butter to stand and trade punches, which just doesn't support Weidman in the twilight of his illustrious career. At a Pick'em price, I'll back the "Wolverine" to get another win and continue his climb in the 185-pound division.
Best Fight Picks: UFC Vegas Rising Contender Underdog Play
This is a fade on Chris Weidman. I believe he is a washed up fighter, and I will happily take dog odds on the hungry Omari Akhmedov to make the most of his biggest career opportunity, and hand Weidman his 6th loss in 7 fights. Obviously, the worst case scenario is Weidman grinding out Akhmedov or submitting him, but I'm not convinced Chris is anywhere near the level he once was, and i'm willing to roll the dice on the surging Russian here at dog odds. Also, Vegas opened Akhmedov -150, so they favor him as well. All the public steamed Weidman and flipped his line to favorite status. Lets see what happens
Jazz Ray: UFC CAGE CRUSHER!

Lee Sterling: UFC Mismatch Of The Month
Chris Weidman is a former champ but he's done. His reflexes are shot and he can't take a punch anymore. We are taking the underdog here Omari Akhmedov and don't just like but love that he is actually an underdog. The wrong fighter is favored in this co main event.
