Reason For Pick:
This is the second meeting between San Francisco and Seattle this season. The 49ers won the first game 13-6 in a defensive slugfest. The two teams combined for just 564 yards of total offense. But there’s a big difference for the 49ers in this game. Colin Kaepernick is now the starting quarterback for San Francisco, and he brings a dimension that will give the Seahawks defense fits. Since Kaepernick took over for Alex Smith, the 49ers have scored 27 points or more in four of five games. San Francisco has one of the top defenses in the league; the 49ers allow just 16 points and 293 yards per game. They are holding opponents to just 4.8 yards per play. The 49ers are also 6-1 ATS as a pick or an underdog under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Seattle’s home field edge can never be underestimated, but the Seahawks face an extremely difficult match-up against the 49ers. Seattle’s offense was stymied in the first meeting, and we do not expect them to produce much offense once again. The Seahawks are off consecutive games in which they scored 50 and 58 points. But they played two of the worst teams in the NFL in the Cardinals and Bills. They’ve only played one elite level defense all season, and that was against San Francisco when they scored just 6 points. If we compare these two teams against the Patriots, the edge certainly goes to the 49ers. While both teams beat New England, San Francisco led 31-10 in the fourth quarter on the road while Seattle trailed the Patriots 23-10 at home in the fourth quarter. We do like this Seattle team, but the 49ers are the better team and we expect them to sweep the season series on Sunday night.
9* Play 49ERS (+).
