As an oddsmaker, Brian is a sought after consultant in the offshore
industry and Brian's power ratings are among the oldest and most reliable available.
An oddsmaker with one of the worlds largest sportsbooks may have best described Brian’s prowess when he stated, "We check what Vegas is doing; We check what Brian is doing; Then, we make our line."
Biggest win of the year: Our biggest win of 2006, so far, was our Big 12 Game of the Year
Texas winning by 25 over
Kansas. This is a Longhorns team who we have pegged as the 2nd best team in the country and not getting near that kind of respect.
Biggest loss of the year: The hardest loss to take this season was the
Cleveland Cavaliers home loss to the
Pistons. Here we had a home underdog leading the way in the final frame and then just shut down completely.
Systems used for handicapping a game: "We use a variety of tools - power ratings, situational analysis, line analysis, consensus reports, injury reports, practice reports, even weather reports - to determine when conditions are ripe to beat a line," he says. "Being right more often than being wrong is the only real validation we have at the end of the day to determine the accuracy of the tools we employ and the methods in which we use those tools."
Favorite stats/pages on Covers: Without question the
matchup pages are the foundation of Covers and while many have tried in vain to duplicate, there is only one real choice on the web for any serious handicapper to get his data.
Favorite team to wager on or against: It's my job to hold no bias towards any one team. Having objectivity is a critical aspect of this business. I have favorite athletes that I have a ton of respect for, like Twins pitcher
Brad Radke, but I have no problem betting against him when the situation calls for it.
Team you avoid when wagering: I don't avoid any team. I'm a little more cautious of all
SEC teams, because I think they are the shadiest division in sports.
Quote: "Again, we have no magic formula, but we work like dogs around the clock to find small edges that can work to our advantage against the numbers," Gabrielle says. "We don't win every play, or every day, but you can bet that our money is where our mouth is on every single play and we don't make a move on any game without doing our homework."
